EXPERIENCE
15 Years
Social justice advocate
LONG-TIME ATLANTA RESIDENT AND DEDICATED SOCIAL JUSTICE ADVOCATE
Social movements and lgbtq+ advocacy have always played a huge role in my personal and professional life. In my 15 years living in Atlanta, I have actively participated in a variety of social justice initiatives, including advocating for faith-based initiatives and serving as a leader in the staff diversity, inclusion, and engagement programs at Georgia Institute of Technology. I have organized events and programs to build community, grow leaders, and transform the culture through inclusive excellence. These experiences have allowed me to make valuable contributions at civic decision-making tables and produce more equitable strategies for my neighborhood and for the city at large.
2013-2022
NATIONAL ADVOCACY
Managing grantmaking portfolio
Nationwide, one of my proudest accomplishments to date was consulting for the faith-based initiative Gays in Faith Together (GIFT), whose mission is to affirm LGBTQ+ people of faith. In 2012, GIFT was a recipient of an Arcus Grant for its Gay Christian? Yes! Campaign, and with the help of the two-year $55,000 grant, we were able to successfully reach further into West Michigan. Managing this grantmaking portfolio, including general operating support and multi-year grants, demonstrates my commitment to intersectional work and prioritizing projects that are local, rooted in lived experience, and aimed at transforming current power structures across the United States. Other initiatives I have worked on include the Anti-Bullying Campaign partnering with George Heartwell, former Mayor of Grand Rapids, and the West Michigan Gay Men’s Chorus.
2015-2021
Policy and Infrastructure
MORE EQUITABLE AND SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION
In my previous work with non-profit organizations, I have gained a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by marginalized communities. In 2021, I played a key role in ensuring the city of Atlanta had accountable and engaged political leaders during the election year. I partnered with various organizations to provide deep engagement between candidates and voters and worked to garner support for a collaborative policy agenda.
